Wed Jul 02 18:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Tokyo-Bound Flight Plunges from 36,000 Feet in Terrifying Emergency Landing

**Osaka, Japan** – A Japan Airlines flight, operated by Spring Airlines Japan, was forced to make an emergency landing at Kansai International Airport in Osaka on Monday after a sudden and dramatic loss of cabin pressure. Flight JL8696, carrying 191 passengers and crew, was en route from Shanghai Pudong Airport to Tokyo when it experienced a technical malfunction at approximately 6:53 pm local time.

According to reports, the aircraft rapidly descended from roughly 36,000 feet to just under 10,500 feet in less than ten minutes, prompting the pilot to declare an emergency. As cabin pressure plummeted, oxygen masks deployed, and passengers described scenes of panic as crew members frantically instructed them to use the masks.

“I heard a muffled boom, and the oxygen mask fell off in a few seconds. The stewardess cried and shouted to put on the oxygen mask, saying the plane had a malfunction,” one passenger recounted to news outlets. Another passenger wrote on social media, “My body is still here, but my soul hasn’t caught up. My legs are still shaking. When you face life or death, everything else feels trivial.”

Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism confirmed that a pressurization system alert was triggered during the descent, indicating a potential fault in the aircraft’s cabin pressure system.

All passengers and crew members are reported to be safe. Spring Airlines Japan has provided passengers with compensation of 15,000 yen (approximately Rs 9,000) and overnight accommodation.

An investigation into the incident is currently underway.

This incident follows a string of recent aviation scares, including an Air India plane crash that killed all but one passenger and alerts on other Boeing aircrafts. These incidents raise ongoing concerns about air travel safety and reliability.
