**Zamora, Spain** – Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, 28, has reportedly died in a fiery car crash in Zamora, Spain. Initial reports from local media indicate that Jota and his brother were traveling in a vehicle that crashed and subsequently caught fire in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Spanish outlet Zamora 24 Horas reported that the vehicle, described by the BBC as a Lamborghini, was reduced to ashes. Emergency responders reportedly identified the victims by their vehicle registration documents. Reports suggest that the car may have crashed after a tire blowout.

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) released a statement expressing their sorrow at the reported deaths of Jota and his brother, Andre Silva: “The Portuguese Football Federation and the entire Portuguese football community are in mourning following the passing of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva this morning in Spain. Jota was not only a great player, with almost 50 caps for the national team, but also an outstanding person respected by teammates and opponents alike. The FPF statement continued, offering condolences to the families and friends of the victims, as well as their respective clubs, Liverpool FC and Penafiel. The FPF has requested that UEFA observe a minute of silence before Portugal’s Women’s Euro match against Spain on Thursday. “We have lost two great players, and their passing is a great loss for Portuguese football.”
