**Madrid, Spain** – Liverpool football star Diogo Jota, 28, tragically passed away on Thursday following a car accident in Spain. Reports from Spanish media indicate that Jota was traveling with his 26-year-old brother, André Jota, who plays for Portuguese club Penafiel, when their vehicle veered off the road and caught fire.

Emergency services arrived at the scene to find the vehicle engulfed in flames. Both brothers were pronounced dead at the scene.

The news comes just days after Jota’s recent marriage on June 22nd to his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso. The couple, who had three children, had been married for only ten days.

Jota began his professional career with Portuguese club Paços de Ferreira before being signed by Atletico Madrid in 2016 for €7 million. He never made a competitive appearance for the Spanish side and was subsequently loaned to Porto before joining Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English Premier League. Wolves permanently acquired him in 2018.

In 2020, Jota transferred to Liverpool for £41 million, quickly establishing himself as a key player in their attacking lineup.
