**Brian Wilson, Beach Boys Legend, Died of Respiratory Arrest at 82**

**Los Angeles, CA – June 30, 2024** – Brian Wilson, the iconic co-founder of The Beach Boys, passed away on June 11, 2024, at his home in Beverly Hills, California, at the age of 82. A death certificate obtained by USA TODAY reveals the cause of death was respiratory arrest, occurring after several minutes of cessation of breathing.

Contributing factors listed on the death certificate included sepsis, a life-threatening response to an infection, and cystitis (a bladder infection). Wilson also battled several long-term health issues, including a neurodegenerative disorder, obstructive sleep apnea, chronic respiratory failure, and chronic kidney disease.

Wilson’s family announced his passing on social media the day of his death, stating, “We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away…We are at a loss for words right now.”

The pioneering musician, instrumental in defining the Southern California surf-rock sound of the 1960s, leaves behind a lasting legacy of groundbreaking music.

He is survived by his daughters, Carnie and Wendy Wilson of Wilson Phillips fame, and five adopted children from his marriage to Melinda Ledbetter, who passed away in January 2024. Carnie Wilson posted an emotional tribute to her father on Instagram, saying, “I am lucky to have been his daughter and had a soul connection with him that will live on always.”

In 2024, Wilson was placed under a conservatorship, with court documents revealing he was taking medication for dementia and was unable to care for his personal needs.

Wilson was cremated and laid to rest at a cemetery in Westwood.
