Tue Jul 01 17:50:00 UTC 2025: **Social Security Payments on Schedule, but Overpayment Recoupments Loom**
Washington D.C. – Social Security recipients can expect their July benefits to arrive on the usual schedule, but some may see smaller checks due to overpayment recoupments. The Social Security Administration (SSA) is expected to begin withholding 50% of benefits from those who were overpaid and have not yet begun repayment plans, starting in late July.
Regular Social Security retirement benefits will be distributed according to the following schedule based on birth date:
* **July 9:** Birth dates between the 1st and 10th of the month.
* **July 16:** Birth dates between the 11th and 20th of the month.
* **July 23:** Birth dates between the 21st and 31st of the month.
Recipients who started receiving benefits before May 1997 or those who also receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are paid on the 3rd of the month.
While the exact number of affected recipients is unclear, the SSA attempted to recover overpayments from roughly 2 million individuals in the fiscal year ending September 2023, according to data obtained by KFF and Cox Media Group through a Freedom of Information Act request.
**SSI Payments**
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks, a program for those with limited income or resources, individuals aged 65 or older, and those who are blind or have a qualifying disability, will be issued on the first business day of the month.

* Tuesday, July 1, 2025 (Check for July 2025)
* Friday, Aug. 1, 2025 (Check for August 2025)
* Friday, Aug. 29, 2025 (Check for September 2025)
