**Balasore, Odisha – July 1, 2025** – A critical flood situation continues to grip Odisha’s Balasore district as approximately 100 villages are submerged following heavy rainfall and the discharge of water from the Chandil Dam in neighboring Jharkhand. The Subarnarekha river and its tributary, the Jalaka, have overflowed, inundating roads and agricultural land in the Bhograi, Baliapal, Jaleswar, and Basta blocks.
While water levels are gradually receding, both rivers remain at dangerous levels. Authorities report that over 2,900 residents have been evacuated from 46 gram panchayats across seven blocks and housed in 17 temporary shelters.
