**Thousands Still Without Power in Springfield Following Sunday’s Storm, Full Restoration Expected by Thursday**
**SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) -** A powerful storm that swept through Springfield on Sunday has left thousands of City Utilities customers without power, with full restoration not expected until Thursday. The storm caused widespread damage to power lines and poles, leading to a peak outage of 37,000 customers on Sunday night.
As of Monday evening, City Utilities crews had managed to restore power to approximately 29,000 customers, bringing the number of affected homes and businesses down to 6,800. Crews have been working around the clock in 16-hour shifts to repair and replace damaged infrastructure.
“This is a large-scale emergency,” said Jamie Presley, manager of communications for City Utilities. “Our crews are working consecutive 16 hours and they will not stop until every customer has been restored.”
The most significant damage appears to be concentrated south of Republic Road, with reports of downed lines, fallen limbs, and trees causing damage to homes and vehicles. One resident, Carolyn Brown, described a large limb resting on her cars and a downed power line near her home.
City Utilities is urging residents to exercise caution around downed power lines. “If you come across a downed line, turn around,” Presley advised. They also encourage anyone still without power to contact the City Utilities outage hotline at 888-863-9001 to ensure their outage is reported.
This storm comes just two months after another damaging weather event left 50,000 customers without power, highlighting the vulnerability of the city’s infrastructure. City Utilities acknowledges the difficulty of being without power and assures customers that crews are working diligently to restore service as quickly and safely as possible.
