Mon Jun 30 22:00:00 UTC 2025: **Headline: Federal Investigation Launched into Pistons’ Malik Beasley Over Alleged NBA Gambling**

**Detroit, MI** – Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley is under federal investigation for alleged gambling activities related to NBA games and prop bets during the 2023-24 season when he played for the Milwaukee Bucks, ESPN reported Sunday.

Federal authorities are probing allegations that Beasley engaged in gambling activities related to NBA games. The probe comes after at least one U.S. sportsbook detected unusual betting patterns surrounding Beasley’s statistics, particularly beginning around January 2024, according to an industry source. One game of particular interest is a January 31, 2024, matchup between the Bucks and the Portland Trail Blazers. Leading up to the game, the odds on Beasley recording fewer than 2.5 rebounds shifted dramatically due to a surge of action on the “under.”

“Malik is afforded the same right of the presumption of innocence as anyone else under the U.S. Constitution. As of now he has not been charged with anything,” said Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney. Haney confirmed that he has been in contact with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York, which is reportedly leading the investigation.

The Detroit Pistons released a statement acknowledging awareness of the investigation and deferring further comment to the NBA. “We are cooperating with the federal prosecutors’ investigation,” said NBA spokesman Mike Bass.

The investigation has put a pause on contract negotiations between Beasley and the Pistons. Beasley, who just completed his first season with the Pistons, was reportedly in talks for a three-year, $42 million deal to return to Detroit.

Beasley had a strong season with the Pistons, averaging 16.3 points per game and setting a franchise record for most 3-pointers made in a season with 319.

This investigation follows similar incidents within the NBA. Recently, former Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter was banned by the league for disclosing confidential information to sports bettors and wagering on games. Earlier this year, Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier was also under federal investigation for unusual betting patterns surrounding him in a March 2023 game when he was playing for the Charlotte Hornets. Rozier has not faced charges or sanctions from the NBA.

Beasley has a history of legal troubles. In 2020, while playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves, he pleaded guilty to a felony charge of threats of violence and served a 120-day jail sentence. He was also suspended for 12 games by the NBA as a result.
