TIRUPATI – In a heartwarming display of alumni support, the graduating class of 1963 from Sri Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Municipal Corporation High School in Tirupati has returned to give back to their alma mater. Sixty-two years after leaving the school, the alumni have invested in upgrading the school’s facilities, focusing on technology and recreation.

The initiative, spearheaded by Kora Venkatachalapathy, former head of Chemistry at Sri Venkateswara Arts College, saw the complete overhaul of the school’s computer lab. Obsolete equipment was replaced with new computers, a printer, and a reliable internet connection. Furthermore, the science lab also received a much-needed upgrade with new equipment. Recognizing the importance of a safe and usable space for outdoor activities, the alumni also took on the task of leveling the school’s playground, which had fallen into disrepair due to external events.

The upgraded facilities were formally inaugurated on July 1, 2025, by Venkatachalapathy, along with fellow alumni K. Gopal and Y.N. Moorthy. While eight other alumni contributed to the cause, they were unable to attend the inauguration.

“We wanted to give back to the school that gave us so much,” said Venkatachalapathy. “We hope these improvements will help current and future students succeed.” The gesture by the Class of ’63 is being hailed as an inspiring example of the lasting impact alumni can have on their former schools.
