**New Delhi:** The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a widespread alert for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across India over the next week, as the Southwest Monsoon has completed its advance across the entire nation, nine days ahead of its usual schedule.

The monsoon trough, currently positioned over Northwest India and extending towards the Bay of Bengal, is fueling intense weather patterns across the country.

East and Central India are bracing for the most severe conditions, with extremely heavy rainfall (over 20 cm in 24 hours) expected in isolated areas of Jharkhand (June 29-30) and Odisha (June 29). Heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) is also likely across Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh through July 5th, with select areas experiencing very heavy downpours.

Northwest India will see isolated heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh through July 5th. Very heavy rainfall is anticipated in Uttarakhand (June 29th – July 3rd), parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana (June 29th–30th), and across Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on specific days.

West India, including Konkan & Goa, the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, and Gujarat, should prepare for isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next seven days. Marathwada is also likely to experience similar conditions on June 29th and 30th.

Northeast India will continue to experience light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura between July 2nd and 5th.

In the South Peninsular region, isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Kerala & Mahe (June 29th, July 3rd-4th) and parts of Karnataka between July 2nd and 5th. Strong surface winds (40-50 kmph) are expected across the region for the next seven days.

The IMD advises residents in affected areas to stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during the intense rainfall and potential flooding.
