Mon Jun 30 05:50:00 UTC 2025: ## LIMP BIZKIT Guitarist Wes Borland Honors Metallica with Bizarre James Hetfield Costume

**DENVER, CO -** LIMP BIZKIT guitarist Wes Borland turned heads at Empower Field at Mile High on Friday night with a truly unique tribute to headliners Metallica. During LIMP BIZKIT’s opening set on the M72 world tour, Borland appeared on stage dressed as a skull-faced rendition of a young James Hetfield, circa the 1980s.

The elaborate costume included a “Metal Up Your Ass” t-shirt and white high-tops, leaving no doubt as to the specific era of Metallica that Borland was channeling. Fan-filmed footage of the performance has been circulating online, showcasing Borland’s dedication to the role.

The Denver show marked LIMP BIZKIT’s final appearance on the M72 tour, having supported Metallica on dates in Toronto, Nashville, Philadelphia, Tampa, and Santa Clara alongside fellow support act Ice Nine Kills.

This isn’t the first time Borland and LIMP BIZKIT have shown their appreciation for the metal legends. In April, Borland posted a reimagined instrumental version of Metallica’s “Orion” on Instagram. Back in 2003, the band also covered “Welcome Home (Sanitarium)” for MTV’s Icon tribute to Metallica.

While Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has publicly praised LIMP BIZKIT and frontman Fred Durst in the past, James Hetfield expressed less enthusiasm for the band’s music in a 2001 interview, calling them “a little cartoony.”

Despite Hetfield’s past comments, Borland’s elaborate and respectful tribute suggests a strong connection and mutual admiration between the two bands, making for a memorable final performance on the M72 tour.
