**Konaseema District Implements Strict Measures to Curb Illegal Sand Mining**

**AMALAPURAM, June 30, 2025** – Authorities in the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema District are taking decisive action to combat illegal sand mining along the Godavari River. District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar announced today that roads connecting to notified sand reaches have been severed through the digging of trenches.

These measures aim to prevent vehicle access to the riverbanks during the enforced ban on sand mining, which will remain in effect until October 15, 2025. The ban aligns with guidelines from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, citing the monsoon season and expected flooding of the Godavari as key reasons.

“All roads connecting to the river bank with sand reaches have been demolished and trenches have been dug to prevent entry of vehicles to the sand reaches during the ban period,” stated Mr. Kumar during a review meeting with concerned officials.

Existing sand stockpiles will be utilized to meet demand during the ban period, ensuring a continued supply while safeguarding the river ecosystem. The move underscores the district’s commitment to environmental protection and the enforcement of regulations governing natural resource extraction.
