**Visakhapatnam, June 30, 2025** – The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), representing India at the 113th International Labour Conference of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Geneva, successfully brought attention to key issues facing Indian workers both domestically and abroad. B. Surendran, National Organising Secretary of BMS, announced the achievements during a meeting with BMS leaders in Visakhapatnam.

The Indian delegation, part of a larger gathering of 5,164 members from 187 countries, raised the critical need for international portability of social security funds for Indian workers returning home after working overseas. Currently, these funds are not transferable, leaving many workers without crucial financial support upon their return.

Furthermore, the BMS advocated for internationally recognized skill certification parameters for Indian students studying abroad. This would alleviate the burden of additional qualifying examinations faced by students upon returning to India, streamlining their entry into the domestic job market. “Children of workers are going to Russia, China and other countries for higher studies and on their return to India after completing their studies, they are facing difficulties in clearing one more qualifying examination for taking up jobs in the country. ” said Mr. Surendran.

The delegation also urged global leaders to regulate the development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies, restricting their use to critical sectors like space exploration and health sciences.

The Director-General of the ILO commended India’s social security model and encouraged member nations to study and adopt similar best practices. The e-shram portal, part of India’s efforts to organize the unorganized sector, has enrolled 310 million workers. This initiative provides access to various government schemes. The country’s social protection coverage for workers in the unorganised sector has doubled, making it the second highest globally.
