**ST. PAUL, MN** – The Minnesota Wild and Washington Capitals have executed a trade, sending defenseman Declan Chisholm and the 180th overall pick in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft to Washington in exchange for defenseman Chase Priskie and the 123rd overall pick. The Wild announced the transaction earlier today.
Chisholm’s tenure in Minnesota, lasting just over a year and a half, comes to an end. Claimed off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets midway through the 2023-24 season, Chisholm carved out a consistent role on the Wild’s blue line, particularly benefiting from injuries to the team’s defensive core this past season. He appeared in a career-high 66 games, registering 2 goals and 12 points while averaging nearly 17 minutes of ice time. Chisholm also boasted solid underlying numbers, with a 50.4% CorsiFor% and a 91.5% on-ice save percentage at even strength.
However, Chisholm’s future in Washington appears less certain. The Capitals already have seven defensemen under contract for next season and need to consider a new deal for Alexander Alexeyev. Chisholm could potentially face a return to the AHL and may become a non-tender candidate.
Coming to Minnesota is Chase Priskie, a prominent defenseman for the Hershey Bears of the AHL over the past two seasons. He is expected to play a similar role for the Iowa Wild. Priskie has tallied 20 goals and 69 points in 130 AHL games, with an additional 4 goals and 19 points in 28 playoff contests.
Michael Russo of The Athletic initially reported the trade.
