**Tiruchi, June 29, 2025** – Residents of Tiruchi are facing a multitude of civic issues, ranging from clogged drains to traffic congestion and illegal flex boards, according to reports from the city.

A blocked storm water drain on Lourdusamy Pillai Street in Ayyappa Nagar, LIC Colony, has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, raising concerns about public health. Residents report that widening work on the drain has resulted in heaps of soil being dumped along the road, exacerbating the problem.

While the long-awaited Integrated Bus Terminus (IBT) at Panjapur is a welcome development, residents urge authorities to ensure all necessary infrastructure is in place before it becomes operational, minimizing inconvenience during the transition from the Central and Chatram bus stands.

Heavy traffic near the new Kollidam bridge at Tiruvanaikoil roundabout, particularly during peak hours, continues to plague commuters. Despite repeated requests, traffic police personnel have not been deployed, and an automatic traffic signal has not been installed.

Residents of State Bank Colony, Crawford, are calling for the urgent implementation of an underground drainage scheme (UGD) to address the lack of storm water drains and the costly reliance on sewage collection lorries.

Concerns have also been raised about the polluted Rettai Vaical canal, which emits a foul odour, rendering the adjacent road unpleasant for pedestrians despite plans for a park along its banks.

Consumers are finding it difficult to read the specifications on Aavin milk sachets, as the use-by date, cost, and quantity are not printed in a bold and clear font. There is a call for the authorities to rectify it immediately.

Students are often found travelling on footboards of buses between No. 1 Tollgate and Chathiram bus stand. There is a demand for the TNSTC to operate special buses for boys and girls in the mornings and evenings.

The proliferation of flex boards promoting temple festivals, birthday greetings, and death announcements is another source of concern. Residents are calling for a blanket ban on flex boards in the city, particularly with the windy season approaching, due to safety issues.
