Sun Jun 29 14:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Hoult Initially Auditioned for Superman Before Landing Lex Luthor Role

**LOS ANGELES, CA** – Nicholas Hoult, set to play Lex Luthor in the upcoming “Superman” film, initially had his sights on the titular role. In a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Hoult and Superman actor David Corenswet discussed their audition experiences with guest host Diego Luna.

Hoult revealed that he auditioned for Superman on the same day as Corenswet. He recounted a memorable encounter after completing a scene: “I walked around the corner, and there was lots of shadows on the studio lot and then one ray of sunshine. David had taken a seat in this ray of sunshine and was sitting there, charging up from the sun like Superman does, getting his power.” Hoult humorously described feeling outmatched by Corenswet’s physical attributes, leading him to believe Corenswet was perfect for the role.

While Hoult didn’t land the part of Superman, his casting as Lex Luthor was met with enthusiasm, particularly from Corenswet. “The day that I found out that he had agreed to play Lex Luthor, I thought, ‘This may be the best thing that happens to this film because a superhero is only as interesting as their villain,'” Corenswet stated.

Hoult’s initial audition for Superman was previously reported by The Hollywood Reporter in 2023, highlighting him as one of the finalists for the role.

“Superman,” directed and written by James Gunn, is slated to hit theaters on July 11 and also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
