**TIRUCHI, June 29, 2025** – Southern Railway has announced a significant upgrade to the Ernakulam – Velankanni – Ernakulam Express trains (16361 / 16362), replacing the conventional rakes with modern LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches. The railway division stated that this transition aims to prioritize passenger safety and provide a more comfortable travel experience.

The Ernakulam Junction – Velankanni express will commence operations with the new LHB coaches from Ernakulam on July 7th, 2025. The return journey from Velankanni will feature the upgraded coaches starting July 8th, 2025.

The change to LHB rakes will also result in a revised train composition. The updated configuration will include one AC two-tier coach, three AC three-tier coaches, eight sleeper class coaches, four general second class coaches, one second class coach designed for Divyangjan (persons with disabilities), and one luggage cum brake van.
