Sun Jun 29 14:25:19 UTC 2025: ## Sudan Refugee Crisis in Chad Reaching Catastrophic Levels as Aid Dries Up, Warns UN and Refugee
**N’Djamena, Chad -** The humanitarian crisis facing Sudanese refugees in Chad is rapidly deteriorating, with dwindling aid, looming disease outbreaks, and an overburdened system on the verge of collapse, a UN official and a Sudanese refugee activist have warned. Al Jazeera spoke to both individuals in Chad, where the impact of the ongoing conflict in neighboring Sudan is pushing the country to its breaking point.
Nearly a million Sudanese, predominantly women and children, have sought refuge in Chad since the war erupted in Sudan. However, despite the massive influx, the crisis is reportedly the most underfunded globally, leaving agencies struggling to provide basic necessities.
“[The situation] is dire and worsening by the day,” stated a UN lead official in Chad, speaking to Al Jazeera. “We are seeing aid programs scaled back drastically, leaving vulnerable refugees without access to food, water, and medical care. The risk of disease outbreaks is growing exponentially.”
Adding to the urgency, a Sudanese refugee activist, who himself fled the same forces impacting his people, highlighted the desperate conditions on the ground. “People are starving, living in overcrowded camps with limited resources. The world has turned its back on us, and the consequences of this inaction will be devastating,” he told Al Jazeera.
The interviews, featured on Al Jazeera’s “Talk to Al Jazeera,” painted a bleak picture of a humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Chad. With resources stretched thin and the international community failing to provide adequate support, both the UN official and the refugee activist warned that the cost of inaction may soon be measured in lives lost. They urged the global community to step up and provide urgent assistance to avert a complete collapse of the humanitarian system in Chad.
