Sun Jun 29 13:50:00 UTC 2025: **McLaren Dominate Austrian Grand Prix, Norris Claims Victory**
**Red Bull Ring, Austria –** Lando Norris secured a dominant victory at the Austrian Grand Prix today, leading teammate Oscar Piastri to a McLaren one-two finish. Charles Leclerc of Ferrari took third place, capitalizing on a difficult day for Mercedes.
The race was action-packed from the start, with a first-lap collision between Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli resulting in a double DNF. Williams’ Alex Albon also retired, and Carlos Sainz was unable to start the race.
Norris faced relentless pressure from Piastri throughout the race, particularly in the closing laps. “It was a tough race – tricky, hot, tiring – but the best result possible, a one-two, so I’m very happy,” Norris said after the race. He acknowledged the intense battle with Piastri, describing it as “a lot of fun, well, a lot of stress for me.”
Piastri admitted the race was “intense” and “pretty hard work.” He added, “I tried my absolute best, could have maybe done better when I got ahead. A bit on the edge at times, but we’re here to race each other and try and fight for wins.” Piastri later apologized for an aggressive move on Norris at Turn Four, which nearly resulted in a collision.
Leclerc, finishing third, conceded that McLaren’s pace was too strong. “I don’t think there was much else we could do, [the McLarens] are too quick. I overpushed at the start, trying to keep up, and degraded my tyres too fast.”
Other notable moments included a late-race battle between Fernando Alonso and Gabriel Bortoleto for sixth place, and a near-miss for Piastri after his pit stop when he rejoined the track behind back-markers.
The result marks a significant step forward for McLaren, who demonstrated superior pace and strategy throughout the race. The team’s strong performance positions them well in the Constructors’ Championship, while Mercedes struggled to match Ferrari. The next race will take place in Silverstone in two weeks.
