**TIRUVANNAMALAI, INDIA – June 28, 2025:** A 35-year-old weaver, identified as M. Thanigaivel, was brutally murdered near his residence in Arathrivelur village, Cheyyar, Tiruvannamalai, on Friday. Police report the incident stemmed from a long-standing family dispute.
According to authorities, the suspect, Raja, 26, brother of Thanigaivel’s deceased wife, K. Vijayalakshmi, allegedly held Thanigaivel responsible for his sister’s death. Vijayalakshmi’s death followed a period of disagreement with Thanigaivel after their marriage.
The incident occurred when Raja intercepted Thanigaivel, who was returning home on his scooter. An argument ensued, escalating to Raja stabbing Thanigaivel. Passersby rushed Thanigaivel to the Government Medical College Hospital in Tiruvannamalai, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Moranam police have registered a case and apprehended Raja at his hideout in the village. He is currently lodged in the Central Prison in Vellore.
