**Coimbatore Students Simulate Parliament, Learn Civic Engagement in Young Indians Initiative**

**Coimbatore, June 28, 2025** – Over 150 students from 22 schools across Coimbatore, including 30 from Corporation Schools, participated in the Young Indians (Yi) Parliament 2.0, a two-day model parliament initiative held at SSVM School of Excellence. The event, organized by the Yi Coimbatore Chapter under its Thalir vertical, aimed to foster leadership, civic responsibility, and essential life skills among the participating students.

The inauguration of the parliamentary simulation on Friday, June 27th, was led by Coimbatore Member of Parliament P. Ganapathy Rajkumar, who stressed the importance of democratic participation. Rajkumar encouraged the students to not only vote but to consider pursuing active roles in governance, policymaking, and public service.

During the event, students took on the roles of Members of Parliament, drafting bills, debating policies, and engaging in structured parliamentary proceedings. This hands-on experience allowed them to mirror the functioning of the Indian Parliament and gain a practical understanding of the democratic process.

Manimekalai Mohandoss and Mohandoss, trustees of SSVM Institutions, emphasized the importance of experiential learning models like the Yi Parliament in developing responsible, empathetic, and well-informed future citizens. The initiative provides students with valuable skills and knowledge essential for active participation in a democratic society.
