Sat Jun 28 06:00:00 UTC 2025: **SpaceX Launches Starlink Satellites from Cape Canaveral Despite Earlier Thunderstorm Warnings**
**Cape Canaveral, FL –** Under clear skies and with 10-mile visibility, SpaceX successfully launched a Falcon 9 rocket carrying 27 Starlink broadband satellites into low-Earth orbit from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 12:26 a.m. on Saturday, June 28. The launch, from Launch Complex 40, occurred just hours after meteorologists issued severe thunderstorm warnings and special weather statements for Central Florida.
The mission marked the fifth flight for this particular Falcon 9 first-stage booster, which previously supported missions including CRS-32, NROL-69, GPS III-7, and another Starlink launch. Following stage separation, the booster made a successful landing on the SpaceX drone ship “A Shortfall of Gravitas” in the Atlantic Ocean.
NASA’s Kennedy Space Center had issued, and then terminated, a Phase I lightning watch earlier in the evening, well before the launch window.
The successful launch coincided with the 10-year anniversary of a Falcon 9 rocket explosion on June 28, 2015, which occurred shortly after liftoff from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.
In other news, Space Launch Delta 45 (SLD 45) recently announced that Col. Brian Chatman is the new installation commander and director of the Eastern Range at Patrick Space Force Base and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. Chatman will oversee the operations and infrastructure for all Eastern Range launch and test missions.
