Fri Jun 27 21:10:00 UTC 2025: ## New Orleans Inmate Captured After Month-Long Manhunt, Social Media Antics

**New Orleans, LA -** Antoine Massey, one of nine inmates who escaped from the Orleans Parish Jail on May 16th, was apprehended Friday afternoon in the Hollygrove neighborhood, bringing an end to a month-long manhunt. The capture was confirmed by law enforcement officials. Derrick Groves remains the sole escapee still at large.

Massey, who has a history of escapes dating back to 2007, allegedly posted videos to social media while on the run, claiming his innocence and making other assertions regarding his release from the Orleans Justice Center (OJC). WDSU news station alerted law enforcement after viewing the videos, which had been online for at least 10 hours. Authorities raided a home on the 1700 block of Agriculture Street based on a tip that it was the location where Massey filmed the now-viral videos. While Massey was not present, belongings believed to be worn by him in the videos were recovered.

Massey has a long record of escapes and has been on the run after cutting off multiple ankle monitors in the past. In 2019 he escaped the Morehouse Parish Detention Center and was found the same day in Texas. Matt Dennis with ASAP Ankle Monitoring, the company that owned one of the monitors Massey cut off in 2023, stated that removing the device is a clear admission of guilt.

Prior to his escape, Massey was being held on domestic abuse charges from St. Tammany Parish, as well as domestic abuse and car theft charges in Orleans Parish. St. Tammany Parish officials confirmed that additional warrants for Massey’s arrest had been issued for second-degree rape, second-degree kidnapping, domestic violence, and violation of a protective order stemming from an incident in Slidell in November 2024.

Massey’s capture marks the end of his longest period on the run following an escape, with previous incidents resulting in quicker apprehension. The search for Derrick Groves continues.
