Fri Jun 27 19:13:52 UTC 2025: ## Train Derailment Causes Delays Near Arakkonam
**CHENNAI, June 28, 2025 (The Hindu)** – A mainline electrical multiple unit (MEMU) train heading towards Katpadi derailed near Arakkonam on Friday night, causing significant delays for mail and express trains passing through the area.
According to a senior official from the Chennai division of Southern Railway, the derailment occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. near Sitheri when the third coach of the nine-car MEMU train, operating from Arakkonam, came off the tracks due to a fracture in the track. Fortunately, the train was not heavily populated with passengers at the time of the incident.
Maintenance crews are currently working to repair the track fracture and re-rail the derailed coach. However, the ongoing efforts have resulted in delays for several mail and express trains originating from Dr. MGR Chennai Central railway station and passing through Arakkonam.
Southern Railway authorities are working to minimize further disruptions and restore normal train schedules as quickly as possible.
