Fri Jun 27 20:10:00 UTC 2025: **Metro Detroit Hit Hard by Severe Storms: Homes Damaged, Roads Flooded**

**CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) -** A powerful line of storms swept through Metro Detroit Tuesday, leaving a trail of damage including a ripped-off mobile home roof, downed trees and power lines, and flooded roadways.

In Clinton Township, William Litwaitis described the terrifying moment the storm tore the roof off his family’s mobile home. “There was rain then all of a sudden, it sounded like a train,” he said. “The rain was going sideways and then all of a sudden, the roof ripped off.” The family, now temporarily displaced, is facing the difficult task of repairing their home. Litwaitis noted they are not wealthy but are determined to make repairs: “It’s a junky, old ’72 mobile home, but it’s all we have… We’re going to do what we can.”

Elsewhere, Sterling Heights residents witnessed dramatic scenes. An 11-year-old captured video of a lightning strike, while a large tree fell onto a home, crushing a shed and knocking down a power line. Rudy Pienzi, a neighbor, described the chaotic conditions: “The wind just picked up and it was pouring rain. (I) opened the front window, just branches flying everywhere.” David Endicott estimated wind speeds of 40 to 50 miles per hour.

The heavy rainfall caused significant flooding in Detroit, leading to the closure of I-75 near 7 Mile Road. In the Bagley neighborhood, downed trees and power outages were reported. “We got a power line down across our fence across our garage, so we’re kind of cut off from the backyard and the garage,” said Detroit resident Craig Payst.

Despite the extensive damage to their mobile home, the Litwaitis family is thankful no one was hurt. “Things can be replaced, but people can’t, so we are lucky,” Litwaitis said. “So what can you say, we were lucky and blessed.” The Litwaitis family has started an online fundraiser to help with repairs.
