Sat Jun 28 02:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Renowned Snake Breeder’s Death Shocks Missouri: Wife Convicted in Murder Plot
**New Florence, MO** – The 2017 death of Ben Renick, a well-known reptile breeder in New Florence, Missouri, initially shrouded in mystery, has concluded with the conviction of his wife, Lynlee Renick, in a murder plot that sent shockwaves through the reptile-loving community. Renick, who housed over 3,000 snakes at his facility, Renick Reptiles, was found dead on June 8, 2017, by his wife.
Initially, Lynlee and Ben’s brother, Sam Renick, who was called to the scene, speculated that a snake attack was to blame, given the bloody scene and Ben’s crushed skull. However, investigators quickly discovered shell casings, revealing that Ben had been shot eight times.
The investigation took a winding path, initially focusing on Sam Renick before shifting to Lynlee after coworkers alleged she was having affairs. A break in the case came three years later when an incarcerated man claimed Lynlee confessed to conspiring with her ex-boyfriend, Michael Humphrey, to kill Ben.
Humphrey and Lynlee accused each other of pulling the trigger. Humphrey was initially convicted of first-degree murder, but his conviction was later reduced to second-degree murder after he testified against Lynlee, claiming she fired the fatal shots. He received a life sentence with the possibility of parole.
Lynlee was found guilty of second-degree murder and armed criminal action and sentenced to 16 years in prison. The case reveals a web of deceit and betrayal, bringing a somber conclusion to the life of a man remembered as a dedicated and promising reptile enthusiast. The investigation revealed Lynlee was living a “double life” and “manipulator.”
