**Alappuzha, India – June 27, 2025** – Alappuzha district is ramping up its fight against cancer with the launch of the second phase of the “Arogyam, Anandam – Keep Cancer Away” campaign. District Collector Alex Varghese announced on Friday that comprehensive cancer screening camps will be organized throughout the district, specifically targeting oral and colon cancers in men over 30.

These camps, spearheaded by primary health centers, will be strategically located in high-traffic areas such as bus stands, railway stations, government offices, and residential communities. Men identified with potential symptoms will receive immediate follow-up treatment.

Building upon the success of the first phase, which focused on women’s cancer screening, this initiative aims to ensure widespread cancer prevention. The previous phase screened over 120,000 women, detecting cancer in 57 individuals who subsequently received medical treatment.

The campaign will also leverage community engagement through pamphlets distributed in places of worship, cancer awareness questionnaires, and a specially designed letter (“Achhan Ariyaan”) disseminated via schools and anganwadis to educate families about recognizing cancer symptoms.

Furthermore, the “Arogyam, Anandam” campaign incorporates a multi-pronged approach, including anti-tobacco awareness programs, efforts to establish tobacco-free school campuses, and the establishment of dedicated tobacco cessation clinics.

Officials emphasized the campaign’s objective is to reach as many men as possible, promoting early detection and prevention of cancer within the community. The Health department hopes that the second phase of the campaign is as successful as the first and that they can help as many men as possible.
