**The Hague** – As Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated his goal of annexing all of Ukraine, European allies have pledged significant military aid to Kyiv, offsetting a freeze in U.S. assistance. The pledges were made during last week’s NATO summit in The Hague, where Ukraine’s struggle against ongoing Russian aggression was a central focus.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte announced that European nations and Canada have committed $35 billion in military support to Ukraine this year, a figure nearing $40 billion. This increase comes as the Trump administration has yet to offer further military aid.

While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the urgent need for U.S. Patriot missile interceptors with President Trump, Trump only offered to “try” to make some available, citing limited supply and the need to supply them to Israel.

Meanwhile, Putin has conditioned a ceasefire on the cessation of weapons deliveries to Ukraine. He reaffirmed his view that “all of Ukraine is ours,” echoing his belief in the unity of the Russian and Ukrainian people. Zelenskyy responded that Putin “wants all of Ukraine” and potentially other nations in the region.

German army planners have labeled Russia an “existential threat,” with a leaked strategy paper revealing Moscow’s preparations for a large-scale conflict with NATO by the end of the decade. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz acknowledged that Germany had ignored warnings about Russia for too long and announced a commitment to raise defense spending to 5% of GDP by 2035.

Even Trump, who previously expressed admiration for Putin, stated that he considered Putin “misguided” and expressed surprise that the conflict in Ukraine hasn’t been resolved easily.

Despite the challenges, Rutte affirmed NATO’s commitment to keeping Ukraine in the fight and reiterated that Ukraine’s path to NATO membership remains open. However, the EU’s failure to open new membership negotiation chapters due to Slovakia’s veto and hints by Slovakia that it may leave NATO caused setbacks in Ukranian hopes.

On the battlefield, Russia has launched approximately 200 assaults daily, with 695,000 Russian troops on Ukrainian territory. Russian strikes continue to target Ukrainian cities, causing civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure.

Ukraine is also focusing on its own long-range weapons production, including the Sapsan ballistic missile. Zelenskyy hopes to partner with allied nations to develop missile production capabilities, with the goal of allocating 0.25% of partner nations’ GDP to Ukraine’s defense industry.

The UK is providing Ukraine’s drone manufacturers with frontline technology datasets to enhance the design of British-made drones for Ukraine. Norway will produce surface drones in Ukraine using Norwegian technology.
