**Nellore, June 27, 2025** – The city of Nellore is set to undergo a dramatic transformation in cleanliness as it adopts sweeping machine vehicles for road cleaning. Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Dr. Ponguru Narayana announced that the manual sweeping of main roads will be discontinued, with machine sweeping becoming the standard.
During a trial run of one of the new machines in the 7th Division Stone House Peta, Dr. Narayana emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the cleanliness of roads. “We have focused on machine sweeping to improve the cleanliness of the roads,” he stated, adding that Nellore roads will be dust-free in 49 days.
The Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC), in partnership with Swachh Andhra Corporation, has invested ₹10 crore to bring 28 sweeping machine vehicles to the city. The Minister mentioned that the number of vehicles would be increased in phases based on requirements, and that the machines are being made available in all municipalities across the state. He also stated that government schools in 125 municipalities would undergo renovation.
In addition to the focus on cleanliness, Dr. Narayana addressed the ongoing issue of pending Tidco houses during a review of the Ongole Urban Development Authority (OUDA). He assured that the pending works would be completed and handed over to beneficiaries by Diwali this year. He criticised the previous government for raising bank loans in the name of the beneficiaries which had become NPAs, and stated that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had directed immediate payment of ₹140 crore to the bankers.
Dr. Narayana announced that L&T company will take up construction work in Prakasam district within the next 15 days. The Tidco houses are divided into three categories based on area: 300, 365, and 430 square feet. The 365 and 430 square feet houses will be completed first.
Finally, the Minister revealed plans to recycle 85 lakh tonnes of garbage left over from the previous government by October 2.
