**I-45 North Freeway Shut Down in Harris County Due to Armed Woman in Roadway**
**HARRIS COUNTY, TX –** The I-45 North Freeway is currently shut down in both directions near Cypresswood Drive due to an incident involving an armed woman, according to the Harris County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office and Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene after reports of a woman involved in a crash who was standing in the main lanes of the freeway, refusing to comply with authorities or drop her weapon. Sheriff Gonzalez later confirmed the woman is now seated in a chair in the southbound main lanes, armed with a pistol and expressing suicidal thoughts.
The circumstances leading up to the incident remain unclear.
Members of the Crisis Intervention Response Team are on scene and actively engaged in communication with the woman in an effort to de-escalate the situation.
Authorities are urging drivers to avoid the area. Southbound traffic is being diverted at SH 99, and northbound traffic is being diverted at Cypresswood.
