Fri Jun 27 14:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Wimbledon Warm-Up: Brits Suffer Setbacks, College Star Dreams of Glory

**London, UK** – British tennis fans have experienced a mixed bag of results ahead of Wimbledon, with some familiar faces bowing out while a fresh talent prepares to make his mark. Dan Evans and Billy Harris saw their runs at the Eastbourne International come to an end, leaving British hopes dashed on the south coast. Evans, fresh off a win against Tommy Paul, fell to Jenson Brooksby, while Harris was defeated by Ugo Humbert. Hamish Stewart also failed to qualify for Wimbledon.

However, there’s reason for optimism. Oliver Tarvet, a British player currently studying at the University of San Diego, has sensationally qualified for the Wimbledon main draw. The 21-year-old achieved the feat after defeating Alexander Blockx in the final qualifying round. The news comes with a caveat, though: due to NCAA amateurism rules, Tarvet will be unable to pocket the majority of his £66,000 prize money for reaching the first round.

“It’s a dream come true,” Tarvet said, despite the financial limitations. “A lot of emotions but I’m just really enjoying the moment… and I’m just happy to be a part of it.”

Meanwhile, Barbora Krejcikova’s Wimbledon title defence is in doubt after she withdrew from the Eastbourne International due to a thigh injury. The Czech player is awaiting scan results and faces a race against time to be fit for her first match. At Eastbourne, Australian Maya Joint defeated Anna Blinkova.

Tennis fans can follow all the action from Wimbledon over the next two weeks. Sky Sports Tennis and Sky Sports+ will broadcast the US Open live from August 24th, also available on NOW and the Sky Sports app.
