Fri Jun 27 17:06:10 UTC 2025: **Headline: BJP Accuses Congress of “Diversionary Tactics” Over Emergency Era Criticisms**

**New Delhi – June 27, 2025** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leveled accusations against the Congress party today, claiming they are employing “diversionary tactics” to avoid apologizing for the actions of a Congress government during the Emergency era, specifically citing violations of the Indian Constitution.

BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi stated the core issue is the violation of fundamental rights during the Emergency, a period the BJP has repeatedly condemned.

The accusation follows criticism from the Congress party towards Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) general secretary Dattatreya Hosabele’s call for a review of the terms “socialist” and “secular” in the Constitution’s Preamble. These terms were added during the Emergency and were not part of the original draft by B.R. Ambedkar. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged the RSS wants to replace the Constitution with Manusmriti.

“The BJP has demanded an apology from Congress and raised the issue of violations of fundamental rights during the Emergency, but the party is instead diverting the issue,” Mr. Trivedi said. He further accused Congress of being behind acts “tampering with the Constitution.”

The BJP reiterated its demand for an apology from the Congress party, insisting they address the alleged abuses committed during the Emergency.
