Thu Jun 26 18:51:32 UTC 2025: ## Bihar to Build Grand Janaki Temple at Sita’s Birthplace
**Patna, June 27, 2025** – The Bihar government has established a trust to oversee the construction and redevelopment of the Punaura Dham temple in Sitamarhi district, believed to be the birthplace of Goddess Sita. The new temple will be modeled after the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
According to a gazette notification issued by the Law Department, the “Shree Janaki Janm Bhumi Punaura Dham Mandir Nyas Samiti” will be led by the State’s Chief Secretary and will take effect immediately.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had previously revealed the final design of the Janaki temple on social media platform X. He stated that the construction of the grand temple would fulfill the wishes of the people and boost tourism in the state.
Speaking during his Pragati Yatra earlier this year, Mr. Kumar said that, in addition to the existing 17 acres of land, the government is in the process of acquiring another 50 acres to further develop the temple complex. The project is expected to be a significant undertaking aimed at promoting religious tourism and celebrating Bihar’s historical connection to Goddess Sita.
