**Mangaluru Police Launch Anonymous QR Code Reporting System to Combat Drug Abuse in Schools**

**Mangaluru, Karnataka – June 26, 2025** – In a proactive effort to combat drug abuse among students, the Mangaluru City Police today launched a QR-code-based anonymous reporting portal. The initiative, unveiled during a program marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, aims to empower students, parents, and institutions to report drug-related activities without fear of reprisal.

Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy emphasized the portal’s utility in reporting drug consumption, peer pressure to use drugs, and the sale and delivery of narcotics within the community. “We will keep the information confidential and take action,” stated Reddy.

The QR code, featured in an advisory booklet for newly established Anti-Drug and Awareness Committees (ADACs) in educational institutions, links to a 14-question online form. The form allows users to anonymously report information about drug use, sale locations, individuals involved, and the need for counseling support. The portal ensures confidentiality through coded submissions, 24/7 tracking, and the deletion of data after issue resolution. There will be no IP or device tracking.

Commissioner Reddy further detailed the formation of ADACs within colleges, comprising faculty, students, administration, a police representative, and a psychologist. These committees will conduct awareness campaigns, monitor campuses for suspicious activity, provide confidential counseling, encourage anonymous reporting, conduct surveys, and collaborate with the health department for periodic drug screenings. The ADACs will report regularly to both the college and the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cybercrime, Economic Offences and Narcotics), who will serve as the police nodal officer.

“We have brought in a new system [to prevent drug abuse on campuses]. Effectiveness of the new system will be reviewed after about six months,” Mr. Reddy told The Hindu.

The Mangaluru City Police are confident that this innovative approach will foster a safer and more supportive environment for students, encouraging them to speak out against drug abuse and seek help without fear of judgment.
