**AAP Suspends Gujarat MLA Umesh Makwana After Resignation Amidst Backward Class Concerns**
**Ahmedabad, June 26, 2025** – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has suspended its Gujarat MLA Umesh Makwana, representing the Botad constituency, just hours after he resigned from key party positions. Makwana cited the party’s failure to adequately address the issues of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) as his reason for stepping down from his roles as National Secretary and party whip.
The suspension, announced by Gujarat AAP president Isudan Gadhvi, will last for five years and accuses Makwana of “anti-party and anti-Gujarat activities.”
Makwana, who belongs to the Koli community (an OBC group), stated that despite resigning from party posts, he intends to continue serving as an ordinary AAP worker and will consult with his constituents before making a decision about his future as an MLA.
His resignation and subsequent suspension come just days after AAP’s victory in the Visavadar bypoll. However, Makwana has accused the party of favoritism toward the Visavadar candidate and for neglecting their Dalit candidate in the recent Kadi constituency bypoll, where the party suffered a defeat. He further criticized all major political parties, including the ruling BJP and Congress, for overlooking OBC representation in key leadership positions such as Chief Minister.
