**LONDON, ENGLAND** – In an all-Canadian showdown, Carson Branstine defeated fellow Canadian tennis star Bianca Andreescu 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-1 in the second round of Wimbledon women’s qualifying on Wednesday. Branstine, 24, is now just one win away from securing a coveted spot in the main draw of the prestigious Grand Slam tournament.

Andreescu, the 2019 U.S. Open champion, struggled with her serve throughout the match, managing only three aces compared to Branstine’s six. Branstine, who represents Canada through family ties in Toronto, will now face Raluca Serban of Cyprus for a chance to compete at Wimbledon.

Joining Branstine in the final round of qualifying is 18-year-old Victoria Mboko of Toronto. Mboko continued her impressive season with a decisive 6-3, 6-3 victory over Switzerland’s Valentina Ryser. Mboko, seeded sixth in qualifying, showcased her powerful serve, firing seven aces and winning 84% of her first-serve points. She will face Patricia Hon of Australia for a place in the main draw.

Meanwhile, Alexis Galarneau of Laval, Que., was eliminated from the men’s qualifying draw, losing to Britain’s Oliver Tarvet.
