**HUBBALLI, June 26, 2025** – The Dharwad district administration in Karnataka has launched an “Acute Diarrhoea Elimination Campaign” targeting 1,622 anganwadi centers in an effort to protect newborns and children up to six years old. The initiative, which began on June 16th and will continue until July 31st, aims to raise awareness about the dangers of acute diarrhoea and promote the importance of nutritional food for women and children.

Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu G.R.J. emphasized the critical role of mothers in the campaign’s success, encouraging their participation in sessions designed to educate them about acute diarrhoea prevention and the benefits of breastfeeding. She stressed that breastfeeding for at least six months is irreplaceable for infant health. The Women and Child Development Department has been instructed to conduct a new survey to identify and re-enroll children who have stopped attending anganwadis, ensuring they receive government benefits and access to nutritious food.

Zilla Panchayat CEO Bhuvanesh Patil underscored the importance of consistent distribution of government-supplied nutritional food to beneficiary children. He elaborated on the crucial role of breastfeeding in overall child development and instructed anganwadi workers to ensure timely delivery of kits for pregnant women. He also urged them to report instances of underage marriages to prevent them.

The campaign launch included a display of various nutritional foods offered under the “Poshan campaign” to pregnant women, mothers, and malnourished children. Senior officials and municipal councillors attended the event, highlighting the administration’s commitment to improving child health outcomes in the district.
