**Law Students Protest Over Hostel Conditions at Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University**

**Chennai, India – June 25, 2025** – Tensions flared at a government student hostel in Chennai on Monday as law students from the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University staged a sit-in protest, demanding improved amenities. The protest, led by a group of women students, stemmed from concerns about hygiene and overcrowding after the university proposed temporarily relocating students from the Chepauk hostel to the Perungudi campus due to upcoming renovations.

Students expressed fears that the temporary relocation would become permanent, leading to space constraints and affecting their living conditions.

Senior police officials and university authorities intervened and engaged in dialogue with the protesting students. University Registrar Gowri Ramesh assured the students that the move to Perungudi was strictly temporary and that they would return to the Chepauk hostel once renovations are completed.

“We have assured them that it is only a temporary change,” Registrar Ramesh stated.

Following the assurance, the students called off their protest. The university is expected to address the students’ concerns regarding hygiene in the Perungudi hostel during the temporary relocation period.
