Los Angeles, CA – Tom Sandoval, formerly known as “the most hated man in America” following the “Scandoval” controversy on “Vanderpump Rules,” made a surprising appearance on “America’s Got Talent,” seeking redemption as a musician. In a sneak peek of the June 24th episode, Sandoval, frontman for Tom Sandoval & the Most Extras, explained his motivation: “This is the chance to show who I am as a musician.”
Dressed in a bedazzled green jacket, Sandoval performed a cover of A-ha’s “Take on Me.” Judge Sofía Vergara initially appeared skeptical but was visibly impressed as Sandoval hit the song’s challenging high notes. Simon Cowell, known for his harsh critiques, initially seemed unimpressed but flashed a smile as the performance progressed. The audience reacted positively, cheering and smiling throughout.
The episode will reveal whether Sandoval’s performance convinced judges Vergara, Cowell, Howie Mandel, and Mel B to advance him in the competition. This wouldn’t be the first time Mandel and Sandoval have met. Mandel previously conducted a controversial interview with Sandoval after Scandoval broke.
In order to audition, hopefuls can try out through either an in-person or virtual open call or through a video audition. Those who make it to the judges get airfare or gas reimbursement and a daily allowance for food, but must do their own hair and makeup. Contestants can rehearse their act, but no special equipment like fire or fireworks are allowed at the open call auditions. The winner recieves $1 million spread out over 40 years.
