Wed Jun 25 06:32:45 UTC 2025: ## News Article: Minor Landslip Reported in Wayanad, Kerala Amidst Heavy Rainfall

**Thiruvananthapuram, June 25, 2025:** Concerns rise in Wayanad district of Kerala as heavy rains trigger a minor landslip in the Vellarimala hills, near the site of a major landslide that occurred in August 2024. The water level in the Punna river has significantly increased following the downpour on Tuesday.

According to a statement released by the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA), a small landslip occurred in the Punchirimattom area. Authorities have taken immediate steps to evacuate workers in the vicinity to safer locations and have strictly prohibited entry into the designated “no-go zone.”

“We have no confirmation of new landslides inside the forest, uphill of Punchirimattam,” the KSDMA clarified. “The loose debris of the previous events are coming down in rainfall. It will continue for some time as the eroded materials need to completely wash off.”

The KSDMA has emphasized that the river and its immediate buffer zone are clearly marked and has urged the public to refrain from entering the prohibited area due to the continued risk of eroded materials coming down.

While the situation is being closely monitored, authorities are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of residents and prevent further incidents. The event serves as a reminder of the ongoing risk of landslides in the region, particularly during the monsoon season.
