**Los Angeles, CA -** Comedian Shane Gillis, star and co-creator of the Netflix series “Tires,” has been tapped to host the 2025 ESPY Awards. The annual event, celebrating excellence in sports, will air live from The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Wednesday, July 16, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and will be available to stream on Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ the following day.
Gillis, known for his stand-up comedy and the popular podcast “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast,” expressed his excitement about the gig, stating, “I’m excited to be at The ESPYs this year. I like sports, so this should be a good time.”
Craig Lazarus, ESPN’s Executive Producer for The ESPYs, praised Gillis’ selection, emphasizing his comedic talent and genuine love for sports. “Shane is not only one of the top comedians today but also a huge sports fan, which made him an easy choice to host The ESPYs,” Lazarus said. “We are thrilled to work with him to create an entertaining show celebrating this year’s best moments in sports and are excited to see what he’ll do on stage.”
Gillis, who briefly played Division I college football at Elon University, is no stranger to the spotlight. Despite a controversial past, including a brief and immediately revoked tenure on Saturday Night Live in 2019, he has found continued success in comedy and podcasting.
The 2025 ESPYs Presented by Capital One are co-produced by ESPN and Full Day Productions.
