Mon Jun 23 01:10:00 UTC 2025: **Mexico and Costa Rica to Clash for Group A Supremacy in Gold Cup Showdown**
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – A highly anticipated matchup between Mexico and Costa Rica will determine the winner of Group A in the CONCACAF Gold Cup on Sunday, June 22nd, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Both teams have already secured their place in the knockout stage with two wins each.
Mexico is coming off a 2-0 victory against Suriname, with defender César Montes scoring both goals in the second half. Montes, who plays for Lokomotiv Moscow, has been a surprising offensive force for Mexico, sharing the tournament’s scoring lead with Costa Rican Manfred Ugalde.
Costa Rica secured their spot in the knockout stage with a 2-1 comeback win against the Dominican Republic, thanks to a late goal from Josimar Alcocer.
A draw in Sunday’s match would be enough for Mexico to win Group A due to their superior goal differential. However, Montes emphasized the team’s determination to fight for the win against a Costa Rican side coached by former Mexico manager Miguel Herrera.
“We have an intense match coming up,” Montes said. “Miguel is a respected coach in Mexico, and he’ll definitely want to beat us.”
Mexico coach Javier Aguirre acknowledged the difficulty of the group stage, despite the team’s two victories. “We knew it was a difficult group and that’s how it has been so far, although it might not seem like it because of the two wins, but it wasn’t easy,” Aguirre stated.
Meanwhile, Suriname and the Dominican Republic will play a Group A match concurrently at 10 p.m. ET on Sunday.
Mexico is favored to win the match, according to DraftKings, with odds of -155, while Costa Rica is a +450 underdog.
Fans in the USA can watch the match live on FS1 and TUDN. Streaming options are also available on fuboTV and other streaming services.
