**U.S. Airstrikes on Iranian Nuclear Facilities Draw International Condemnation**
**United Nations, June 23, 2025** – Airstrikes conducted by the United States on Iranian nuclear facilities have triggered a global outcry, with the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warning of a “perilous turn” in the already volatile Middle East.
The emergency session of the UN Security Council was convened on Sunday following President Trump’s announcement that U.S. forces had targeted the Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites. Satellite images showed significant damage to the Natanz facility.
“The bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities by the United States marks a perilous turn in a region that is already reeling,” Guterres stated, urging the international community to act decisively to halt further escalation and return to negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program. He emphasized Iran’s obligation to adhere to the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, informed the Council that the attacks have severely compromised nuclear safety and security within Iran. While no immediate radiological release has been detected, Grossi warned of the potential for such an event, urging maximum restraint and stressing the catastrophic consequences of military action against nuclear facilities.
Acting U.S. Representative to the UN, Ambassador Dorothy Shea, defended the airstrikes, asserting that the Council must demand Iran cease its alleged pursuit of nuclear weapons, end its hostility towards Israel, and negotiate peace in good faith.
