Sun Jun 22 20:20:00 UTC 2025: ## White Sox Bullpen Woes Continue as Civale Eats Innings in Loss to Blue Jays

**TORONTO** – The Chicago White Sox (24-53) fell to the Toronto Blue Jays (41-36) on Saturday by a score of 7-1, marking their ninth loss in the last ten games. The defeat was compounded by the team’s ongoing bullpen struggles, which forced starter Aaron Civale to pitch deep into the game.

Following a doubleheader and a bullpen game necessitated by Davis Martin’s injury, the White Sox desperately needed a long outing from Civale, acquired in a recent trade with the Milwaukee Brewers. While Civale delivered seven innings, allowing five runs on nine hits, the Blue Jays offense proved too much to handle.

Toronto jumped on Civale early, with Bo Bichette homering on the first pitch of the game. A three-run second inning further extended the Blue Jays’ lead to 4-0. Civale settled in afterward, holding Toronto scoreless for four innings.

“After a tough start there…he did a great job of settling down,” said White Sox manager Will Venable. “And to cover seven innings with where we are at with our bullpen is huge.”

The White Sox offense, however, struggled mightily against Blue Jays starter José Berríos, managing just two hits in 7 2/3 innings. Miguel Vargas scored the team’s lone run in the sixth after hitting a triple.

“There are times where you just get beat, and today was a good example,” Venable conceded, praising Berríos’ performance.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. added a late home run for the Blue Jays in the seventh off Civale. The eighth inning saw the major league debut of White Sox reliever Jacob Palisch, who allowed two runs. Despite the shaky outing, Palisch expressed gratitude for the opportunity.

“It’s a dream come true walking out there,” Palisch said. “A couple of unlucky breaks, but I’m proud of myself for…getting to this point.”

The White Sox will look to rebound in the series finale, hoping for a better offensive performance and a more rested bullpen.
