Guam – The United States is deploying B-2 stealth bombers to Guam, according to U.S. officials speaking anonymously to Reuters on Saturday. The move comes as President Trump weighs potential U.S. involvement in the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.
While officials were tight-lipped about the specific details, including the number of bombers being deployed and whether the move is directly related to Middle East tensions, the B-2’s capabilities raise concerns. The bomber can be equipped with the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator, a powerful bunker-buster bomb that could be used against Iran’s heavily fortified nuclear facilities like Fordow.
The Pentagon has not yet commented on the deployment.
Experts are closely monitoring whether the bombers will be moved to Diego Garcia, a U.S.-British military base in the Indian Ocean. Diego Garcia is strategically located for potential operations in the Middle East. Notably, B-2 bombers were stationed on Diego Garcia until recently, replaced last month by B-52 bombers.
The deployment coincides with heightened tensions in the region, including ongoing airstrikes between Israel and Iran, with Israel claiming to have killed a top Iranian commander. Iran has stated it will not negotiate its nuclear program under threat.
This week, Reuters reported on increased U.S. military activity, including the movement of tanker aircraft to Europe and the deployment of fighter jets to the Middle East. An aircraft carrier in the Indo-Pacific region is also reportedly heading towards the Middle East. President Trump has indicated he will decide within two weeks whether the U.S. will join the conflict on Israel’s side.
