**ISTANBUL** – The escalating conflict between Israel and Iran entered its ninth day on Saturday, marked by continued missile and drone strikes. The situation is further complicated by warnings from Iran and its allies against U.S. intervention, raising fears of a broader regional war.

Overnight, Israel targeted four Iranian cities, including Isfahan, striking centrifuge production facilities in an effort to cripple Iran’s nuclear ambitions. While Iranian authorities claim there was no leak of hazardous materials, the Israeli military confirmed the strike, and Iranian media reported the deaths of five Revolutionary Guard members.

Iran retaliated with a barrage of drones and missiles at Israel, causing minor damage to a two-story building in northern Israel. An Israeli official described the attack as a “small barrage” largely intercepted by Israeli defenses, claiming they have neutralized over 50% of Iran’s missile launchers. However, the official acknowledged Iran still possesses significant capabilities, and the Israeli military is preparing for a “prolonged campaign.”

The Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have threatened to target U.S. vessels in the Red Sea should the Trump administration assist Israel in the conflict. “In the event of the American involvement in the attack and aggression against Iran with the Israeli enemy, the armed forces will target its ships and warships in the Red Sea,” said Houthi military spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree.

U.S. President Donald Trump has been considering active military involvement, prompting Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to warn against such action, deeming it “very, very dangerous for everyone.” Trump stated on Thursday that he would decide “within two weeks” whether to strike Iran, later emphasizing that this timeline was a “maximum.”

Diplomatic efforts in Geneva, New York, and Istanbul have so far failed to produce any breakthroughs. Araghchi stated he would not negotiate with the U.S. while Israeli attacks continue.

The conflict has already resulted in significant casualties. Iran’s Health Ministry reports 430 civilian deaths and over 3,000 injuries, while Israel reports 24 deaths and over 1,000 injuries since the start of Iranian retaliation.

Officials from member countries of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation are meeting in Istanbul to discuss the escalating crisis and the potential ramifications of a wider war. The world watches with bated breath as the situation teeters on the brink of further escalation.
