**Tybee Island Warns Beachgoers of Dangers at South End Sand Bar**
**TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) -** The City of Tybee Island is urging beachgoers to exercise extreme caution around the South End Sand Bar, citing dangerous conditions that can quickly overwhelm even experienced swimmers.
In a social media post issued Saturday, the city warned that while the sandbar may appear inviting, it is a high-risk area due to strong currents, sudden drop-offs, and rapidly changing tides. “Although it looks attractive, the Tybee South End Sand Bar is actually a very dangerous area where swimmers can become quickly overpowered by the current during a rising tide,” the city stated.
Officials are reminding the public that venturing out to the South End Sand Bar is not only dangerous but also illegal. Tybee City Code 12-1a(20) prohibits walking, swimming, or wading in the area. The city hopes increased awareness will prevent accidents and ensure a safe beach experience for all visitors.
