**Child Protection Commission Orders Relocation of Bus Stop Near Kerala School Due to Safety Concerns**

Thiruvananthapuram, June 21, 2025 – The Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has mandated the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to relocate the East Fort south bus stop (Kovalam route), currently situated in front of Government Central High School, Attakulangara. The directive was issued in response to a petition from the school’s PTA, citing safety concerns and disruptions to the educational environment.

The commission, led by member N. Sunanda, found that the bus stop had become a hub for anti-social activities, including drug use, and posed a significant safety risk to students due to speeding buses. The school headmaster reported that the crowds hindered access for students, teachers, and parents, while individuals waiting for buses were observed trespassing, urinating, and loitering on school property.

While the Transport Commissioner acknowledged the challenges of relocating the stop due to nearby establishments, and the KSRTC MD expressed concerns about potential traffic congestion, the commission deemed the safety and well-being of the students paramount. The commission has instructed the District Collector to ensure the KSRTC MD implements the directive. Both the KSRTC MD and the District Collector have been given 60 days to submit an action-taken report.
