**London, UK** – World number two Carlos Alcaraz survived a grueling three-hour, 26-minute battle against fellow Spaniard Jaume Munar to advance to the quarter-finals of the Queen’s Club Championships. Alcaraz, who won the Queen’s title in 2023, overcame extreme heat and a resilient Munar to secure a 6-4, 6-7 (7-9), 7-5 victory.
“I don’t know how I’m still standing here,” Alcaraz admitted after the match, which followed just 11 days after his epic French Open final win over Jannik Sinner.
Alcaraz held two match points in the second-set tie-break but double-faulted on one. He then had to fight back from a break down in the deciding set. The victory marked Alcaraz’s 15th consecutive win, the longest streak of his career.
The challenging conditions, with scorching temperatures, prompted Alcaraz to joke about playing in Spain. “At some point, I felt like I was playing in Spain,” he said. “Today the conditions were extreme, super hot. At the end of the second set, I was struggling a little bit, my head spinning around. I just kept fighting.”
Despite being ranked number 59 in the world, Munar pushed Alcaraz to his limit. Alcaraz showed unusual frustration throughout the match. Alcaraz will face Arthur Rinderknech in the quarter-finals for a chance to reach the semi-finals.
