**Nayeem Hasan’s Five-Wicket Haul Gives Bangladesh Slim Lead in Galle Test**
**GALLE, Sri Lanka – April 9, 2024** – Bangladeshi off-spinner Nayeem Hasan delivered a historic performance at the Galle International Stadium, claiming a five-wicket haul that helped restrict Sri Lanka to 485 in their first innings. Bangladesh secured a slender 10-run lead on Day 4 of the ongoing Test match.
Hasan’s masterful bowling proved instrumental in dismantling the Sri Lankan batting lineup. He took key wickets at regular intervals, including that of Dinesh Chandimal (54) to spark the Day 4 collapse. His other victims included Kamindu Mendis (87), Dhananjaya de Silva (19), Tharindu Rathnayake (0), and Asitha Fernando (4). His figures of 5/121 from 43.2 overs mark his fourth Test five-wicket haul, and second one against Sri Lanka.
With this achievement, the 25-year-old bowler etched his name in the record books as the first Bangladeshi bowler to ever claim a Test five-wicket haul in Galle. He joins Taijul Islam and Mohammad Rafique as the only other Bangladeshi bowlers to achieve this feat on Sri Lankan soil.
Prior to this match, Hasan had never bowled in an overseas Test. This was also his first Test fifer in around three years.
In addition to Hasan’s heroics, pacer Hasan Mahmud also contributed with a notable performance, taking 3/74 from 21 overs.
Bangladesh scored 495 runs in their first innings.
